Tre Martelli - Senté coumpaire Andreo

from Concerto di Natale by TRE MARTELLI

/

about

In Judea, to honour the birth of the divine child, the angels sing and joyfully announce that the war is over and men of good will are finally at peace. And theyplay and dance happily. In the thirties, Monsignor Riberi, a priest and historian from Cuneo, found some Christmas carols written in Argentera, in Occitan language, in a manuscript from the early 1500s in the parish archives of Sambuco (Valle Stura - Cuneo). The Nouvè (Christmas carols) were (and still are today) part of the traditional rites of the Christmas days when small theatrical performances were staged with music and songs accompaniment. Riberi found the lyrics only but, starting from the 1960s, musicians tried to put them into music; the one performed here is an adaptation by Sergio Berardo to a traditional Galician melody.
